Kurt walked softly into his living room. He was in his pajamas, and his bare feet made no sound on the carpet. His dad was reclining in an arm chair, flipping through channels and yawning loudly.
"D-Dad... can I talk to you?"
Kurt's dad stood right up and turned off the TV. This surprised Kurt. He didn't expect his dad to be so eager to listen.
"Of course, Son, I need to talk to you too. About... Carole."
Kurt breathed in.
Kurt's dad examined his shoes and continued to talk without looking up.
"I asked her to marry me."
Kurt breathed out.
"Oh."
Kurt's dad couldn't tell if Kurt was upset or excited. Kurt couldn't tell either. His brain wasn't working properly.
"We're actually going to get married really soon. Err... this month. N-nothing fancy! Just a really small wedding at the church we used to go to when you were in elementary school. Just a few close friends."
"Congratulations, dad!"
Kurt hugged his dad like he was an oversized teddy bear.
"You're ok with it, Kurt? I mean, I can't say you had a choice in the matter, but I feel a lot better knowing you approve."
"Of course. I'm happy for you. And I like Carole. She's a nice. Although I will need to help her with her wardrobe..."
"Thanks, Kurt. That means a lot."
Kurt's dad patted Kurt's shoulder and sat back down.
Kurt was about to leave the room when Kurt's dad turned his head and spoke again.
"Oh and Kurt!"
"Yea, dad?"
"About Finn..."
"He didn't mean it dad. He's a good kid. Really."
"I know. I just can't stand it when I hear that word. You know f-"
"Yes. I know."
"You're ok with Carole and Finn... living here, then?"
Kurt nodded slowly. His dad smiled and then turned his attention to the TV set.
Kurt walked out of the room without knowing what to feel.
